Lapidary is the age-old art of transforming natural rocks and minerals into polished GEMSTONES suitable for use in Jewellery and other ornamental purposes.
Skilled artisans of old, fashioned the jewels in the crowns of kings and queens but today, professional lapidarists supply the Jewellery trade with gems we all purchase in rings and pendants etc.
Thousands of people in Australia have learned the artistic skills of gem cutting and Jewellery making as a hobby and it is one of the most personally satisfying ones you can have.
You can learn to cut your own gemstones and create Jewellery at your own pace, in a social setting with people of all ages who share the same fascination and passion with gemstone artistry as you.
In brief, a new and very rewarding hobby: Classes which teach you the numerous skills that go with it, access to our extensive library and equipment, activities that can involve the whole family, a chance to make new friendships, and have fun all at minimal costs.
The extent of your participation in Club activities is up to you – Some people are quite happy to receive our monthly magazine and not attend any classes, while others book all classes, attend all meetings, and adopt the clubroom as their second home. Most members are between these extremes but it’s your choice - the more you attend Club activities, the more you will gain from being a member.
Along with our main Club activities we may also run other classes throughout the year for related Lapidary skills that will be advertised on the Club noticeboard or in our monthly magazine.
To find out more information or when we are open give us a call on (02) 9639 7843. The skills you will learn are not particularly complicated and can be mastered with practice and patience.
